From "Race Car" to "ShowCar"- and back again
(06/30) As the month of June slips by with the sounds of fireworks going off outside, it means a busy weekend is being planned for the DARE 2 Team Sprinter. In fact, this looks to be one of the busiest weeks of racing that we'll employ, until the 360 Nationals, that is. The thing is, we won't even be at the track- not at first.
With two nights of ASCS Midwest Regional action set for July 2nd and 3rd, the Don Droud-owned Maxim is set to attend both events, BUT not until the car is shown at Lincoln Drywall Service (5731 Stewart Avenue) Thursday afternoon for their monthly "Customer Appreciation Day." Once we've shown the good people of Lincoln what our team is all about, we'll head east toward I-80 Speedway for the 'Trifecta' Event scheduled later that evening, with racing to begin at 7:00 p.m. If you recall, the last time we hit the Greenwood facility, Jr. had a torrid battle with Brian Brown (21) and eventually made a late charge on Chad Humston (1M) to wound up in the runner-up position. We're hoping to complete the night with our first "W" of the year.
On Friday, we're loading up and heading back to the Droud boys home town of York, Nebraska to show our car at Moses Motor Company (about 1 mile north of the York Exit), another long-time sponsor of the DARE 2 Team. We'll be at their facility showing the Rasmussen Auto Supply/Oval Operations #2 until 3:00 or so, then take off for the lightning-fast Junction Motor Speedway. In May, we had a fast car and contended for another podium finish but was passed on a late restart and brought the Black Duece to the checkers in fourth place.
With all the racing we've done, it'll be fun to get out and meet the public with the team we've put together. Then, after all the frivolity, we'll put our game faces on, head to the track and try to pull off this time what we fell just a little short of the last time out. I think this team is destined for some glory, which will give us all a chance to glorify God in the process! Let me tell you, I can't wait!
